Hunter: 16 months

Hunter is getting dangerously close to turning 17 months so I figured now was a great time to share what’s new with him!

He had his last check up a bit after 15 months and weighed 23 pounds, 7 ounces.  Normally he follows the 25th percentile chart for weight and was a bit under, but a bit higher for his height that time.  I’m pretty sure he’s been putting on a little more winter chunk lately – the boy is been feeling heavy!  Over the weekend I did an impromptu weighing of him clothed on the scale and we came in at 26 pounds.  Yowza.  I’m sure he weighs less because every scale is different and he wasn’t naked, but still, I know he’s grown a lot this past month or so.

I had him stand on the scale to be weighed and then all weekend he loved going into the bathroom and standing on the scale.  It turned into a fun little game.

Just this past week he entered into a new stage – the mommy stage.  He’s been much more clingy to me and asks for me all the time… “mommy, mommy, mommy”.  It’s pretty cute.  Also super cute – he loves giving kisses now.  Last night Jacob watched him while I was teaching and he said there was lots of “mommy, mommy” near the front door.  Anytime I leave him (childwatch or with family to be watched) he’s asking for mommy and has been crying a bit more when I leave.  Poor guy.  Also, he’s actually been crying a bit when I put him down for bed (not normal) so I’m not sure if that has to do with mommy not being in there with him.

His understanding and comprehension blows me away.  I am amazed by the things I can ask him to do, and then he follows through and does them.  He’s understanding direction more too, like when I tell him to look for something behind him he turns around and gets it.

We do a little bit of sign language – just some of the basics – these are the ones he knows: more, please, all done, thank you and the newest is help. He says the word while signing it.

Two word statements are pretty normal now, whereas not too long ago I felt like a two word statement wasn’t happening as often.

His favorite two words are “what’s that?”… and he asks it all the time.  It’s a great tool for learning, because a lot of the time he repeats the word when I tell him what something is.

Something super fun – his absolute favorite way to go down the stairs is sliding down on his belly.  Boy is getting fast too!

He still doesn’t watch tv really, except for the occasional minute or two when he actually sits still on the couch with us when we have the tv on (normally just a football game over the weekend), but he absolutely loves these minion videos.

Jacob showed him a video once and he laughed at them a ton, especially when the little minions laugh, he loves that.  And it is the cutest laugh ever.  Of course when he video ends he signs and says more perfectly.

Last month I mentioned that we picked up a couple kiddo potties from ikea.  We’ve been using them pretty much daily and he’ll pee and poop on them, but it hasn’t been a consistent thing that he does on his own.  Next week however, we’re starting full on potty training.  I’ve cleared my schedule up a bit to just be home with him and I don’t plan to go anywhere so that we can focus and hopefully make a good head start on it. I know 17 months (which he’ll be when we begin) is definitely on the early end, but it’s my goal for him to be daytime potty trained by the time little sister gets here in 4 months, and with holiday traveling coming up in a month I wanted a good head start before the business of thanksgiving and Christmas arrives.  I’ll be sure to share more about our potty training adventure and the plan I’m using.  Here’s to hoping it goes well!

Is the mommy stage one your kiddos went through?

Heather
